A few months ago I went for a hike with my husband on the Appalachian Trail. We started off the day with what I thought would be a 5 to 6 hour hike, but in the end the hike was more like 7 hours, canvassing 15 miles. It was treacherous, with boulders and climbing up and down rocks on your hands and knees. The worst part of the trip is that I had to pee. Since I was low on water, I waited it out, and eventually the urge went away, but this is no way to do a hike.

Being a woman with needs that require getting your naked butt within inches of the forest floor, I started out my quest to find a better way.

That’s when I came upon the shewee, the Freshette, and finally the Go Girl. These products are all designed to help a woman pee – Standing Up! After a thorough product evaluation online, I made my decision to purchase a Go Girl for only $6 dollars.

<img src="http://blogs.glam.com/glamchic/files/2009/09/gogirl.jpg" alt="Go girl!" / align="center">

Why did I choose the Go Girl?

The go girl is made of silicone, making it flexible, easy to roll up for storage

The silicone makes the go girl completely reusable

The product had some terrific reviews

I just test drove the Go Girl this weekend on a 9 mile hike, and it worked beautifully without error. Of course, I did practice a few runs in the shower before taking this puppy out on the road with me! I highly recommend that you do this first! It was liberating and clean, I was able to roll up the Go girl back into the plastic bag and back into the container without getting a drop on my hands. I’m a believer!

I think that the Go Girl would come very much in handy when traveling abroad. I can’t tell you how many questionable toilets I have come across in my travels. And believe me I have peed in some strange places before

Once in a shack built off the side of a cliff in Bosnia!! Looking down through the hole in the floor I could see down the ravine. It was nerve wracking. I wish I had a photo so that people could get an idea of what it is like to hear your urine hitting the bottom of the cliff seconds after it left your body…

Another time on a moving train in Thailand, I could see the tracks moving under the metal toilet. There was no toilet paper, and the jostling train had me bouncing all over the place. And I can’t forget to mention that the entire room was covered in urine and smelled like it too!

Speaking of squat toilets, across South East Asia…They are scary and smelly. I can’t wait to take this Go Girl with me on my next trip to Asia!

Like a girl scout, I am always prepared. I’m always looking for good deals, and great fashion for travel! Here are some tips that I use when searching for the ultimate bargain on travel clothing:

1. KISS.

For the unaware, that stands for “Keep it simple stupid”. It’s a good thing to remember. Wacky prints, unique accessories to an outfit, etc. are unbelievably burdensome when you’re traveling. Look for solid colors. Stay away from stripes, floral, pictures, and animal prints. These only draw attention to you, rather than away. Remember attention when traveling is not a good thing!

2. Versatility.

Aim for items that can be used in multiple ways. For instance, consider a cardigan, which not only works over a tshirt, but also when buttoned up doubles as a new look. A plain knee length black skirt can double for a business meeting, or for going out if dressed up just the right way. The goal is to get at least two wears out of each item in your bag.

3. Composition.

What is this thing made of? Silk is a nightmare to travel with. If you are a big sweat hog like me, heed this advice well. Your shirt will show huge puddles of sweat on it, and this will stain the silk. Cotton is nice and light, but acts like a wet rag when it gets damp. I recommend wicking material shirts, and wool. If you have to have cotton, make sure you have enough for the trip. Washing this in the sink is not recommended.

4. Color Theme.

I have two themes. One I call my Black/Purple/Grey theme, and the other I call my natural brown/pink/tan theme. I will switch based on my mood and on the season. Two themes make it really easy to shop. Anything you buy will go together, and it will make it easy peasy to get ready in the morning.

One word of advice when it comes to color: if you carry any white clothing with you when you travel, make sure you bring a tide pen with you! IT just takes one splash of starbucks and your outfit is toast.
