Granted, when traveling, you should always have backup photos of your identification, your credit cards, etc. stored somewhere safe, maybe stored online so that you can access it in case your wallet was stolen. But, don’t try this yourself kids! Just because you may have read it on the internet doesn’t mean it’s always true.

The Candian Customs says that this never happened. (http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2012/01/ipad-passport-customs/) And with further thought, this should NOT ever happen, given the many magical things that can be done these days with Photoshop.

We all know that airplane food borders on some of the worst food out there. Why is that? Well, airline chefs have been researching the exact reasons why and they think they may have pinpointed the real culprit: sound.

Up until now, airline food programs have been adding salt to the foods to try and make them have more flavor. Salt isn’t going to solve the problem, especially if you are being bombarded with the noisy atmosphere of wind and jets right outside of your seat. This study shows that flavor and crunchiness can be affected by loud noises.

How to combat this taste/sound barrier? Try wearing some earplugs, or listen to some classical music with some noise canceling headphones while you eat. This may make your overall experience on the plane a little more bearable. At least until those airlines figure out a way to make it less noisy on the plane…

It’s always a challenge when you’re sick, especially when you’ve had some travel planned that requires jumping onto a plane. None of us want to move our vacations, or pay that nasty cancellation fee for our flights. Getting on a plane may be miserable while you are sick, but it still gets you from point A to point B, right? Those days now may be over, based on new devices being installed in airports, called Fever Scanners. This article, highlights how fever scanners are being placed before customs booths, to run an infrared scan on the bodies of unsuspecting travelers. The infrared will glow and quickly detect those people who are running a higher temperature.

This phenomenon I have experienced myself once, entering Thailand. There were duty officers standing at a narrow hall, with cameras pointed toward all of us entering the customs lines for entrance to Thailand. One man stood behind the monitor, watching for any people with a fever.

With the recent Sars, Bird Flu, and Swine Flu outbreaks, this measure is meant to help and protect the people who live in these countries. Unfortunately, I have not found any evidence to describe what happens if you do have a fever. Do they put you back on a flight home, free of charge? I doubt it.

Best thing to do is to think twice before getting on an international flight when you’re sick. You might end up having to fly twice the distance just because you’re turned away at the destination, and believe me, when you are sick and in a plane, your illness is compounded in misery.

From today’s paper, an article posted in Reuters indicates that Spirit Air is about to begin experimenting with charging the passengers for overhead carry-on luggage. The fees range from $30 for an advanced registration, to $45 when checking a bag at the gate!! This is outrageous considering what they are forcing customers to have to comply with. We have been subjected to fees for sodas, fees for checking bags under the plane, and now for carrying a bag onto the plane. There are very few people who fly without any sort of luggage. I am appalled.

“U.S. airlines are increasingly relying on new fees — called ancillary revenue in industry parlance– to boost their revenue and ultimately influence profits.”

These fees are getting way out of hand.
