Like a girl scout, I am always prepared. I’m always looking for good deals, and great fashion for travel! Here are some tips that I use when searching for the ultimate bargain on travel clothing:

1. KISS.

For the unaware, that stands for “Keep it simple stupid”. It’s a good thing to remember. Wacky prints, unique accessories to an outfit, etc. are unbelievably burdensome when you’re traveling. Look for solid colors. Stay away from stripes, floral, pictures, and animal prints. These only draw attention to you, rather than away. Remember attention when traveling is not a good thing!

2. Versatility.

Aim for items that can be used in multiple ways. For instance, consider a cardigan, which not only works over a tshirt, but also when buttoned up doubles as a new look. A plain knee length black skirt can double for a business meeting, or for going out if dressed up just the right way. The goal is to get at least two wears out of each item in your bag.

3. Composition.

What is this thing made of? Silk is a nightmare to travel with. If you are a big sweat hog like me, heed this advice well. Your shirt will show huge puddles of sweat on it, and this will stain the silk. Cotton is nice and light, but acts like a wet rag when it gets damp. I recommend wicking material shirts, and wool. If you have to have cotton, make sure you have enough for the trip. Washing this in the sink is not recommended.

4. Color Theme.

I have two themes. One I call my Black/Purple/Grey theme, and the other I call my natural brown/pink/tan theme. I will switch based on my mood and on the season. Two themes make it really easy to shop. Anything you buy will go together, and it will make it easy peasy to get ready in the morning.

One word of advice when it comes to color: if you carry any white clothing with you when you travel, make sure you bring a tide pen with you! IT just takes one splash of starbucks and your outfit is toast.

When I go to sites like Magellan’s, I love to page through the clothing and laugh at how bulky, poorly styled and very aged all of the items are. I would never buy a dress that equates to me: a bag with a belt tied around it. Nothing else screams out the message “TOURIST” than one of these outfits. Especially if it’s made of khaki.

Here is an example. Okay, I admit it’s not the worst possible thing to wear. It is very modest, but honestly I would never wear this dress. It’s called the “crinkle dress”. Just imagining this on me makes me shudder…

The Crinkle bag dress

It has become my life mission to find better clothing for the well informed traveling fashionista. Stick with me and I will lead you down the path of better traveling for us girls.

For instance try the site Athleta, known for its very trendy yoga and work out clothes, also offers some handy travel clothing items. Right now I ADORE this dress referred to as the LTD (Little Travel Dress):

The Little Travel Dress

This dress is cute, makes you look YOUNGER than you actually may be, and fits your form a little more than the travel dresses that I see on all of the travel sites.

Traveling with dresses tips:

Bring along tights – having a pair of solid tights will add a new dimension to an already worn dress. A solid pair of black tights with the dress along with a scarf will create a whole new outfit!

Wear a blazer or suit jacket over the dress – this can keep you warm on a cool fall or spring day or evening, or add a new dimension to the outfit as a second (or third) wearing!

Don’t be afraid to buy two of the same dresses in multiple colors! – If the fit is perfect for your body type, buy another while it’s still in stock in a different color! You will wear it often, and it will always appear that you have many different outfits

The latest in great footwear and onebag travel gives us the Nike Free 7 Degree athletic shoe.

I have created my first of many series of video posts, where I will give you a live action review of a product. This is my first, and I’m very open to any suggestions.

The Nike Free 7 Degree sneaker is a beautifully designed shoe, specifically created for fitness. I would use this shoe for doing exercise machine cardio, and weight lifting. Due to the very minimalistic heel and cushioning, I would not use this shoe for long running.

The heel of this shoe is the main feature, as you can see in the action video, the back of the shoe is soft, and can fold flat. This feature allows you to wear the shoe like a clog, and slip your foot in and out easily from the shoe without even touching the shoelaces! This is a great way to wear only one pair of shoes onto the plane for one bag travel. If you aren’t wearing this shoe onto the plane, the entire shoe’s thickness is a mere 2″!! This is less than half of a traditional running sneaker (as shown in the video too).

Overall I give this product a 4.5 out of 5 stars! Plus it’s super cute in a hot pink color!
