Carry-On bag Fee?

by Linda on April 6, 2010

From today’s paper, an article posted in Reuters indicates that Spirit Air is about to begin experimenting with charging the passengers for overhead carry-on luggage. The fees range from $30 for an advanced registration, to $45 when checking a bag at the gate!! This is outrageous considering what they are forcing customers to have to comply with. We have been subjected to fees for sodas, fees for checking bags under the plane, and now for carrying a bag onto the plane. There are very few people who fly without any sort of luggage. I am appalled.

“U.S. airlines are increasingly relying on new fees — called ancillary revenue in industry parlance– to boost their revenue and ultimately influence profits.”

These fees are getting way out of hand.

When I was travelling with Air Lingus, I was told I could have two suitcases (like normal). Turns out they only allow one checked bag, and I had to spend a whopping 100 Euros to check everything else. I will never travel with Air Lingus again.

The audacity! Well Air Lingus is another one of those discount airlines that are absolutely nickel and diming people! I have heard similar complaints about Jet Blue. One Bag Carry on will help avoid that in the future. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope that they don’t charge for a carry on too someday!! Good to know, thanks for the tip on Air Lingus!
